You can use CareCredit for pets too actually. We used it for my kitty when we had to have a whole bunch of his teeth yanked. Was a life saver for us.

I AM SOOOO with you on the freak out bit with dentists. I get so nervous, so weirded out. My doctor said she would prescribe me something next time but I just got a note from my dentist that they do oral conscious sedation...not sure if my insurance will cover it but that might be an option for me next time. It's embarassing...I walk in and the assistants all pet my arms and talk to me in a coo-ing, soothing voice like I'm five years old. I need to go again but I know they are going to yank my wisdom teeth if I go in again and the thought of that is equally bad even though I know they totally put you out for it.

Last time I went was for the same thing...cracked tooth which led to a post and crown. I SOOO know how nerve wracking that can be!!!

Don't get me started on the "painless" wisdom tooth thing. Yeah, I was knocked out, BUT I woke up in the middle of them cutting and yanking out one of me wisdom teeth. Apparently they did not give me enough sedative - bastards. It sucks to remember anything from a surgery - frelling hurt.

How was the crown thing? Painfull? Not so bad? Oral Conscious sedation sounds promissing... They don't do gas where I am going b/c several of the nurses are pregnant and apparently gas is bad or something..

OMG I wish I hadn't come read your comment...getting me there in the first place was bad enough...OMG.
get the Valium before you get the crown...
Indeed. Don't frek out about the wisdom teeth, as I am told I was the exception. It really was painless aside from that - pills took the edge off everything later. I was ready to eat real food not 2 days later. No worries.

Sympathies to all with dental probs but watching my uninsured 24-year-old suffer as his problems with a cracked tooth /exposed nerve gets worse forces me to say: Don't put off work that needs to be done if you can help it! It doesn't go away, it only gets worse!

Thank you for the links. I'm giving the info to my kid.

Indeed, lesson learned for me. Fear kicked my butt and will cost me $$ I could have saved when I had dental insurance...
I see you have very good advice both here and from nikki earlier. I'm glad you signed for one of the plans she recommended. dental insurance is a rip anyways: I have state-insurance and teh SO has private and both dental plans suck the big one. they pay, at best 50% of major procedures (like a crown). matter of fact the teh SO just had to have a crown put in (no root canal or nothing) and his share was $420.00. not too far from what you are paying.

in re: valium. obvy, follow what your dentist says. I am quite the nervous Nelly at the dentist and quite jumpy, so he now gives me Valium to take before I have work done. his instructions are to take it 30 minutes before appt. time and to have someone drive me there and back.

good luck in your procedure. ;)
2/3 of my mouth is root canaled and most are crowned. Gotta thank my bone disease, but nonetheless, I have a close relationship with dentists.

I hope it all works out for you. I think my dentists can thank me for their houses, boats, vacations to Hawaii...

sigh.
