Frack, frell, shite, carp...
Well, I had to break down and make a dental appointment (December 07 is pain day). A while back my tooth cracked at the filling and I only got a patch job on it when ultimately it will need a crown. I was banking on having some dental insurance with me new work, but, alas, all I will be eligible for is frelling Aflac. Even with Aflac, I would have had to wait for ONE FRELLING YEAR before I could get this done. Well, it can't frelling wait. I am getting tired of worrying about my frelling teeth, so it needs to be done. I could kick my teenage shelf's arse for not taking better care of my teeth - if I did, I would not be in this boat now. Damage done, FRELL.
Anyhow, as I said, I posted about this a while back and Nikki told me about dentalplans.com - a way to get discounted dental work. I signed up with one of the companies and if all goes well, I will save about $600.00 or so dollars on the work I need done at the moment; further, you don't have to wait a frelling year! FRELL YOU AFLAC. Also, what the hell kind of state insurance does not offer Dental - Mississippi that's who!
I contacted a dentist and they told me about CareCredit, which is a credit card designed to be used at various doctors in order to help people pay off high price procedures monthly - so long as you pay within the certain amount of % free period (usually a year). Hopefully, I will be accepted for this - I have to call later and see.
So, thanks to Nikki for the advice. It is good to have a dental person in me Hood even though all dentists are evil and pain bringers - mostly.
Anyway, as I type, I am still shaking from nerves. Frelling dentist is my biggest fear in the world. However, the nice dentist I called said that they would give me a valium before the procedure to help. Hopefully that and a huge array of shots will get me through this...

I AM SOOOO with you on the freak out bit with dentists. I get so nervous, so weirded out. My doctor said she would prescribe me something next time but I just got a note from my dentist that they do oral conscious sedation...not sure if my insurance will cover it but that might be an option for me next time. It's embarassing...I walk in and the assistants all pet my arms and talk to me in a coo-ing, soothing voice like I'm five years old. I need to go again but I know they are going to yank my wisdom teeth if I go in again and the thought of that is equally bad even though I know they totally put you out for it.
Last time I went was for the same thing...cracked tooth which led to a post and crown. I SOOO know how nerve wracking that can be!!!
Don't get me started on the "painless" wisdom tooth thing. Yeah, I was knocked out, BUT I woke up in the middle of them cutting and yanking out one of me wisdom teeth. Apparently they did not give me enough sedative - bastards. It sucks to remember anything from a surgery - frelling hurt.
How was the crown thing? Painfull? Not so bad? Oral Conscious sedation sounds promissing... They don't do gas where I am going b/c several of the nurses are pregnant and apparently gas is bad or something..
Sympathies to all with dental probs but watching my uninsured 24-year-old suffer as his problems with a cracked tooth /exposed nerve gets worse forces me to say: Don't put off work that needs to be done if you can help it! It doesn't go away, it only gets worse!
Thank you for the links. I'm giving the info to my kid.
in re: valium. obvy, follow what your dentist says. I am quite the nervous Nelly at the dentist and quite jumpy, so he now gives me Valium to take before I have work done. his instructions are to take it 30 minutes before appt. time and to have someone drive me there and back.
good luck in your procedure. ;)
I hope it all works out for you. I think my dentists can thank me for their houses, boats, vacations to Hawaii...
sigh.
