Subtle Scare...

Creepy is a good word for it. Yikes.
Yes, the first one was better than I expected.
I'll go add this to netflix.
The first one was excellent. Mostly I think because it was set in Britain & had a very British feel to it. We're used to America being invaded by the space aliens, taken over by the zombies, having the giant beasts stomping on or having the big disaster movie type things happen. Concentrating the action on a small group of people helped as well I think. Having the hero, not square jawed & heroic was also a big plus. Somebody more average & easier to identify with, along with starting confused at the beginning of the film because he didn't know the full situation.
If you enjoyed '28 Days later' You might want to see if you can find the BBC TV series version of 'The Day of the Triffids' (from the late 70s I think) another excellent low key post apocalypse movie.
Similarly, you might want to check out 'Dog Soldiers' An excellent British set Horror film that you know would have been terrible if it had been tainted by Hollywood.
Yes, I just rented it not knowing and was so happy to have something not taking place in LaLaLand with all the pointy-faced usual suspects.
For a non-horror with the same effect I liked Once.
(And Triffids is great, from a great book.)
