How are you ringing in the New Year tonight?
Went out to eat with friends. Fed Gophers and then checked to make sure the light was working in the Gopher Room, and it was not, so a problem for another day. Well, a problem for somebody else that is. At home, watching TV or a movie until the ball drops.
HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
The new year's first Gopher Picture...
Are you throwing or attending a holiday party this year? Any ideas/tips to share?
I am neither throwing nor attending a holiday party this year - I am going to the en-laws. Wait, I guess I did attend a company Christmas Party. I also attended another type party. I know I am definitely not throwing, nope, definitely. Tips or ideas? Not really. Enjoy the eggnog? Is that a tip or an idea?
First off, let me state that I am a huge fan of the children's series The Spiderwick Chronicles. With that said, as some of you may know, or may not, my wife and I visited Amherst, MA this past summer. While we were there, we stopped by the R. Michelson Gallery located in downtown Amherst. This was, and is, an incredible art gallery that featured tons and tons of works by local artists and children's artists - not the least of which were works by Dr. Seuss (originals at that). Well, we could not really afford the Dr. Seuss prints, but we did manage to purchase a Polar Bear ("Polar Bear's Dream") piece by Jeff Mack - the one that is currently on his homepage (we have print #1)!
Well, to the point, while we were in the gallery, I noticed that Tony Diterlizzi had several prints available. If you are not familiar with Diterlizzi, then you need to be - he is a great artist and illustrator. We did not purchase any of his art because we had previously purchased the polar bear and Tony's stuff was a bit expensive (deservingly so). However, I did find out that Tony is a local artist and would be willing to sign anything I wanted. To make a long story short, when we got back home, I emailed the galleries' owner and arranged to get Arthur Spiderwicks' Field Guide to the Fantastical World Around You autographed. I just got it in the mail today (Monday). Anyway, this is what it looks like (the book, not the autograph), and yes, I am bragging!

Whoever came up with this blog design gets TWO THUMBS WAY UP!! If you could come up with more penguin based designs, I would be very happy. It is good to see that people have finally realized the inherit cuteness and mainstreamyness of the penguin. Now that penguins are hip, I still love them - but I was in favor of the penguin long before March of the Penguins!
Long live the Penguin Revolution and enjoy the pic goodness below!
What is your pet peeve, the one thing which really drives you mad?

Two things, probably more, but I am going with two:
- Not getting a question answered - If I bother to ask a question, please answer it with some resemblance to the original question. Please don't give me a blank look; please don't ignore me; please try to give me what I asked.
- When it comes to grading papers, I cannot stand contractions. Don't use them in papers you turn in to a teacher!
As I said, there is probably more; in fact, I know there is more, but I am going to go with these two as I can't think of the others.
Good Day!
