What was your favorite road-trip of all time?
Submitted by bodhibound.
There are actually several memorable road trips, not the least of which was our trip up the coast for the ASM conference at Amherst, MA (Summer 2006). That was a fun trip. Had lots of good food and passed through at least 13 or so states - if only for a moment. As I have posted on this trip a good deal already, I believe, I will not post anymore for now.
However, one very memorable trip was our trip to San Angelo, TX. We took this trip because my wife was visiting the college there in order to check whether she wanted to work on her Master's Degree with that department. Alas, she did not and we ended up in Little Rock, AR at UALR, but I digress. This particular trip stands out because our friend "Cheetoh" came with us. Also, this was about a 12 hour drive from Lafayette, LA and through the heart of Texas. I should add, I HATE Texas - San Angelo, however, was very nice. There were delays (few hours) somewhere around Dallas or some other big shite-hole in Texas. We eventually made it to San Angelo sometime around 2 or 3 in the morning, which was good because I was starting to see little green men on the dash. Anyway, San Angelo was lovely. There was also this little out-of-the-way, plate-lunch style place that I will never forget - Diego's. They had the best Mexican food that I think I will ever eat. I did not want to know what the meat was or how long it sat out, but it was the best! Heehee, only Cheetoh and I ate there, as my wife was busy with her interview thing - she missed out. Anyway, Diego's is now legendary to the Cheetoh and myself. Now, some pictures from this journey:
Well, finished the book late, late last night. I had to finish it. I want to discus, talk, complain, rave, etc, but my wife is still in process of reading it - hurry Neophyte Naturalist and read!
For now, let me just say, well, no, can't say that either...
And now a story from the South...
"Hey Larry Joe, there's a truck right next to where we have to mow the grass ::spits::. Well, I'll be Billy Joe, there sure is. I guess I shouldn't have ::spits:: mowed there so close to that truck - I never saw it ::spits::. Well, guess what Larry Joe ::spits::, the grass that you just mowed ::spits:: has been dead for months and probably didn't need the mowing ::spits::. But, Billy Joe ::spits::, they pay us to mow the grass, so I's mowed it ::spits:: good. I don't know who that truck ::spits:: belongs to, but the windshield is mighty frelled now. I guess I might not should have mowed by bricks ::spits:: and over concrete right next to that truck ::spits::, shouldn't I Billy Joe? Ah hell ::spits:: Larry Joe the fellow was parked in a parking spot next to where we get payed ::spits:: to mow, it's that truck owners fault. Let's go get some beer ::spits::, it's already 10:00 a.m ::spits::. Hell, Billy Joe, after we gets some beers ::spits::, I gotta go home and beat ::spits:: my wife and sleep with my dog. Yeehaw ::spits, spits, spits::, all on the county's dime. Life is good Larry Joe, life is good ::spits and scratches all around::*..."
I wish this was not a true story, but alas, the windshield on my truck has several new rock chips - nothing big but it still irks me something fierce. So, that was my morning.
*The facts of this story are all true. I only changed the names. I am unsure about the beers, dog, and wife, but they are likely true.
Bless these idiots down here...
Ask anyone, Hufflepuff is my favourite house and I made it!
Friggin ants again, this time in the spice cabinet! Killed them; the ant god will be busy...
Then went and bought stuff to put around house, under house, in cabinets, etc... Those damn things better be cautious, as I am on to them.
However, we did go and get some kick arse furniture today. Me wife would know the names better, but in essence, a book shelf, a thing to hold nice plates with lots o glass, and a buffet?!? table. They were all her family's stuff from a house that has not been lived in in a long time. Some work needed to be done on them and we will have to take the buffet thing to a place that can do this work, but all in all, it is very nice. It is extra nice because it is family furniture that has tons of history and meaning. Pic goodness is below:
Oh, and the complimentary Ash picture - he's on our messy counter eating because he is Ash and he gets to eat on the counter!
