Today, we will be hosting Mary Anna Evans at me library. She is the author of the Faye Longchamp Archaeological Mysteries, of which there is soon to be four novels. I am more than a bit nervous as she is fairly famous around these parts and other parts in the South. Perhaps some of you in VoxSphere have even heard of her. The problem is that I have yet to read her books. I just don't read that much popular fiction, other than Fantasy and SciFi. Anyway, I will soon, at least, have to read some of her third book as it is this month's book club book.
Her books:
If you are in the area, please stop by. It will start at 5 p.m. and she will speak at 6 p.m. There should be food!
The second meeting of my Food Group meets tomorrow night. The theme, if you will, is Soul Food (comfort food) and/or Valentine's Day. I went with the Valentine's Day aspect and will be serving a Banana Split Salad.
Here's the Recipe (newly edited to work with Vox)...
Banana Split Salad (Ingredients)
1 (14-oz) carton frozen whipped topping
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 can cherry pie filling
1 small can crushed pineapple, drained
3 medium bananas, sliced
1/2 cup flaked coconut
1/2 cup chopped pecans
1 1/2 cups mini marshmallows
Mix whipped topping and sweetened condensed milk. Stir in remaining ingredients. Works well prepared the night before serving. You may substitute for fat free or nearly fat free ingredients where possible.
Well, training.
It wasn't so bad. Basically don't tell anyone anything about any patron unless they have a warrant or unless they are the patron - and then be wary. Nothing new. Also, give the patron everything he or she wants so long as it doesn't take from giving another patron or patrons everything he or she or them want. Nothing new.
I felt like I was back in training with SBAM. What was that video we had to watch SBAM - something with Lily Tomlin?
There was some interesting stuff on policies. Our system needs to work on policy, I think. At least update and put into one place policy, if you follow?
That's all...
So, what's the strangest thing you have ever found in a book?
Me? Well, today we found a dime bag (marijuana) and a pack of Zigzags in, of all things, a nonfiction book for learning math (All The Math You'll Ever Need).
Did we leave it in and shelve it for the next person? You decide...
That's correct, I am at work, but I am phoning it in today. Well, at least, I am trying to do just that. However, so far, I have had to unplug one nastily plugged toilet and, well, that's about it. Oh, the joys of working at a library that doesn't have a custodial staff. It is only me and one other person running the liberry today. One lady wanted off, no problem, and then one lady called in sick this morning. So, just two of us. It is doable. Will actually make the time go by faster if we are busy.
Anyway, I leave you with me feets @ work, enjoy...
It is MEAT DAY by the way, so EAT some meat.
Update: It was a good Santa too! He had a real beard - all white and stuff. He was tall and had the belly. I swear this guy could actually be "the" Santa Claus...
If you want to get your picture taken with Santa then come on down to me library. He is here. Taking pictures and dishing out candy canes!
I was a little more than shocked. They liked the book - The World Without Us. I did not think that they would. Well, I don't know if I would call it liked, but they were glad to have read it. It was something they would not have normally read, but were glad to read it. Interesting. I may have a more nonconservative group than I originally thought. By "they" I mean my book club. The book club thing is one of the only parts of this job that I am still not totally comfortable with doing. It is getting better. Next on the agenda is December's meeting, which will be a "free" read - read what you want. In January, we will be read The Creation... by E.O. Wilson. That should be interesting.
This makes a complete Nablopomo 2007 month for me - WOOT! The pressure is over...
Here's to a day full of the following:
"Different Peoples, Different Needs."
"Hot Technologies."
"Young & Wired."
Dinner on Your Own...
I should be done by 5:30 or so, I hope. Dinner on me own will consist of going to the huge arse mall they are supposed to have in this city and doing some Christmas Shopping. However, they will have that open bar again tonight and every night from 5:30 - 7:30...
